Sarasota Orchestra, Step Into Live Music, Spring 2019
The Sarasota Orchestra has announced their mid season schedule for the Sarasota Orchestra. Tickets start at 35.00 per person. Performances are at the Van Wezel or the Neel Performing Arts Center.
January 11 -12 La La Land In Concert - the entire film is screened with a live performance of the score by the Sarasota Orchestra.
January 17 - 20 Ax Plays Beethoven - International superstar Emanual Ax,widely regarded as one of today's greatest pianists, plays Beethoven. Prokofiev described his Symphony No. 5, written in 1944, as a "hymn to a free and happy Man."
January 31 - February 3 Round Trip Trip Paris - Clark Rundell, guest conductor/Vivian Hagner violin. Gershwin; An American in Paris, Saint-Saens: Capriccios, Bernstein: On The Waterfront, Vieuxtemps: Violin Concerto No. 5, Barber: Night Flight
February 21, 23, 24 To Sarasota With Love - A musical love letter to our community, this concert features Ravel's Bolero. Program includes an epic love story, a magical story of adventure, and a duet based on the fairytale Beauty and the Beast.
March 1-2 An Evening With Judy Garland - The legendary vocals of Judy Garland are combined with live music by Sarasota Orchestra to create a unique concert event. You'll enjoy Garland standards accompanied by film footage and photos projected across three screens tracing Garland's illustrious career.
March 31 - Music Of The Americas - You will be dancing in your seat to these jazz and tango inspired tempos. This distinctive and delicious soundscape of Latin musical morsels comes to us from Argentina, Puerto Rico and Brazil.
April 5-7 Peace and Joy - Beethoven's Ninth Symphony - A celebration of Anu Tali's six-year tenure as Music Director with a finale that is a true "Ode to Joy". Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 is a beloved anthem to his cherished belief in the virtues of humankind.
April 12-13 Hollywood Hits - Andrew Lane, Principle Pops Conductor - Experience majestic music from some of the world's greatest films. Video montages, film clips, and vintage still images accompany the scores and vocals from blockbuster movies such as Gone With The Wind, The Magnificent Seven, Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, James Bond, the Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Ben-Hur and more.
Plus, March 14 & 16 - Earshot, An Initiative For New Music - the nation's first ongoing program for identifying and promoting the most promising orchestral composers on the national stage.
And, Great Escapes Sundays, January 27 - Shuffle - a fun format where audience members pick the music live. February 17 - A Many Splendored Thing - A Valentine's Day themed concert of love songs. March 24 - Sounds Of The Stage - Orchestral performances of the best of Broadway.
