Call to Artist: Historic Downtown Interactive Mural

Call to Artist: Historic Downtown Interactive Mural
Feb 12, 2019 Venice News
Venice MainStreet, Inc. is holding a contest for an interactive mural in Historic Downtown Venice. The mural will be located predominately downtown for hundreds of thousands of yearly visitors to see. Work must be completed by June 14, 2019. A Visit Florida grant will pay for a portion of this project.
Purpose:  To create an interactive mural that encourages people to take a picture with the image and share on social media. It must fit in with the ambiance of Historic Downtown Venice and advertise Venice, FL.
Theme: “3-D action image fitting to Venice in the time period of 1920s and the 1930s”
Specifications:
  • The wall is located at 303 W Venice Avenue Venice, FL 34285. The total wall space is 25’ by 7.5’. The entire wall does not need to be used for the mural. Because of the road location a space of 13’ by 7.5’ can be captured within one picture. The area would allow for up to two photo ops. See the attached diagram.
  • Concept and this completed form must be delivered to the Venice MainStreet office (101 W Venice Ave #23 Venice, FL 34285) by March 29, 2019
  • Concept should include details on scope of pay, maintenance expectations, artist bio with images of past work and the materials to be used.
  • A committee will choose the winning artwork by April 5, 2019
  • Once approved by the City of Venice work can begin. All work must be complete and billed to Venice MainStreet by June 10, 2019.

Venice City Council to Discuss Capital Projects

Venice City Council Set to Discuss Capital Projects Next Week

Workshop on Capital Projects in Venice.

VENICE (WWSB) - Venice City Council will be meeting next week to discuss spending on future projects. The Capital Improvement Program would spend $121 million over the next five years. This money is funded by the city’s other revenue like the airport and utility reserves.
Major projected expenditures include:
• about $3.5 million from the Building Fund for the expansion of City Hall. It’s part of a $10.6 million package, partly funded by a $4 million bridge loan, that also involves replacing Fire Station 1.
• about $6.2 million in mobility fees on road projects.
• more than $24 million on various utility projects
The Council will also sort through hundreds of thousands of dollars in requests from city departments to include items in the five-year plan, ranging from replacing fire engines to equipment to wash out the trash cans used in the automated pick-up program.
Among the proposals:

• $25,000 in Fiscal Year 2019-20 to add closed-captioning to the streaming video of City Council meetings.
• about $5 million over the next four years to add an aquifer storage and recovery well. The bulk of the money — $4.4 million — would be spent in Fiscal Year 2021-22.
• $400,000 in Fiscal Year 2020-21 to install three pickleball courts in the sand playground area.
The workshop is on Wednesday, February 20 at 9 a.m. at the Community Hall in Venice City Hall.
