The Jacaranda Plaza store, along with a Lucky’s Market, is replacing a Kmart.

One of the highly anticipated replacements for Kmart in Venice’s Jacaranda Plaza has its grand opening on the books.

Marshalls, a discount retailer brand under the umbrella of Framingham, Massachusetts-based TJX Cos., has scheduled the grand opening of its Venice location for Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The store, covering approximately 20,000 square feet, is at 1679 U.S. 41 Bypass South. It’s one of two new tenants taking over the old Kmart spot — the other is Lucky’s Market, which is still being built.

Katie Babb, a spokeswoman for Marshalls, said that the company generally looks to put stores in areas with families, strong home ownership, an existing busy retail market and fashionable shoppers who are value-conscious.

“We expect to be very successful in Venice,” Babb said.

Marshalls stores generally employ 60 people, including full and part-time associates, she said. Regular hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays, according to the Marshalls website.

Jacaranda Plaza is in the process of being revitalized. LA Fitness left in July and is expected to be replaced by a Bealls Outlet/Home Centric combination store by March. Jersey Mike’s Subs also recently opened.
